HOW THE ASTER SLC CAME TO BE … AND WHY

Downtown Salt Lake is having more than a moment—it’s in the midst of a full-on renaissance. Business is booming, bars and restaurants are thriving, and there’s more of an art and music scene than ever. Pair that with legendary mountain recreation right at the edge of town, and you’ve got one colorful mecca of good livin’. The only problem: until recently, downtown housing remained unaffordable and didn’t represent the many types of people in our community. It’s why The Aster was designed … and who it was designed for: the diverse range of people making this city what it is today.

ALL TOGETHER, NOW

To bring The Aster to life, a huge collaboration took place among the city’s Redevelopment Agency, a slew of investors, and Brinshore Development. Everyone at the table shared a common vision: to create something that fit right into the city’s walkable center, that welcomed all income ranges, and that embraced beautiful design. All while incorporating the historic Cramer House building.

IT’S MIXED-USE IN THE TRUEST SENSE—
a place that reflects and reimagines the surrounding city.

The Aster’s design now welcomes residents and city ramblers alike to enjoy the “paseo” plaza forming a street-level canyon between the two towering buildings. Lining the paseo, storefronts offer space for restaurants, bars, and cultural spaces—breathing even more life into the city’s heart.

The Aster was also created to accommodate a diverse range of incomes and household sizes, with rents priced on an income-based scale making it possible for more people to live in the center of our city. The floor plans range from studios perfect for working singles all the way up to four-bedroom apartments fit for fuller households.
